Amber –
I love the idea and structure of the book. As well as the introductions to some wonderful stories. However… the font that was chosen is horrible. It is so hard for the kids to decipher capital letters and certain letters don’t appear properly because the font is too squished together. Extremely disappointed when it’s missing the entire mark on the purpose of this course!

Question

What does “Scratch & Dent” mean? I assume it means used but are all the pages intact?
Upvote if this was helpful (0) Downvote if this was not helpful (0) Watch Unwatch Flag for removal
Answer Desk –
Scratch & Dent titles are complete in content but have cosmetic damage: bent corners, scuffs on the corners or cases, or slightly imperfect printing. Sometimes, there may be an updated revision for sale, and the older edition will go to Scratch & Dent.
Scratch & Dent titles are sold as is and are not eligible for return or refund, and are only occasionally available.

Stephenie –
How do you know which level is appropriate to start with? My kids are currently in K and first grades and I want to utilize this over the summer.

At those ages, you want Level 1 for sure. You can shorten the copywork for the youngest as needed.

Question
Christina –
What is the difference between the old version and the new revised version? The description says for simplified use, what does that mean?
Upvote if this was helpful (0) Downvote if this was not helpful (0) Watch Unwatch Flag for removal
Answer Desk –
In the revised version, the biggest difference is that an optional fifth lesson in creative writing has been added each week.
It is simpler to have the expository writing and creative writing lessons in one book. It’s arranged so that the creative writing lesson follows the same theme and passage for the week, so everything flows, yet the creative writing lesson can be skipped without harm. Question
Melissa G –
What is the difference between the “Complete Level 1” and the “Level 1 Student Pages?”
Upvote if this was helpful (0) Downvote if this was not helpful (0) Watch Unwatch Flag for removal
Answer Desk –
“The Complete Level 1” is just referring to the Workbook, which has everything you need for the year: the teacher instructions and one set of consumable Student Pages. The Student Pages are only the Student Pages, and cannot be used without a workbook. You might buy a set of Student Pages for your second child, or simply because you would prefer to not pull them out of your book.

Question
Lauren Pak –
I just got workbook Level 1 Writing With Ease. It doesn’t say revised. I am looking for the student pages that are compatible. Preferably as a pdf.
Upvote if this was helpful (0) Downvote if this was not helpful (0) Watch Unwatch Flag for removal
Answer Desk –
The PDF for the Original Edition isn’t available, but you can use the Revised Student Pages PDF instead. There is one lesson that will not match, so you’ll have to add copywork for that. It will include the SP for the optional fifth day of creative writing that is in the Revised Edition, which you can just ignore.

Question
Catherine Larson –
If I am starting with a second grader, what level is recommended?
Upvote if this was helpful (0) Downvote if this was not helpful (0) Watch Unwatch Flag for removal
Answer Desk –
For second grade, go ahead and start with Level 1. They will be finished with the series in plenty of time to move on to a logic-stage program.

Question
Samira –
Hi, I have a 7 and 9 year old. This will be our first time using the series. Can I use level 1 for both?
Upvote if this was helpful (0) Downvote if this was not helpful (0) Watch Unwatch Flag for removal
Answer Desk –
Yes to the 7-yr-old for sure.
If the 9-yr-old is in fourth grade, then you will have to decide in sixth grade if they are ready to move on to Writing with Skill with two years of WWE, or if they need the third year. Doing the third year would have them finishing WWS in ninth grade, leaving three years for rhetoric-level writing in high school.

Question
Katarina Neuhart –
What is the appropriate level to start a 9th grader that is a very reluctant writer
Upvote if this was helpful (0) Downvote if this was not helpful (0) Watch Unwatch Flag for removal
Answer Desk –
This is the elementary program; you would want to take a look at Writing with Skill for an older student. WWS builds on itself and is meant to be started at the first level.

Question
Kris –
Have the selection of texts been revised? Or is it just the addition of creative writing lessons?
The program was excellent as it was!
Upvote if this was helpful (0) Downvote if this was not helpful (0) Watch Unwatch Flag for removal
Answer Desk –
The addition of the creative writing lessons is the biggest change. Each creative writing lesson follows the same theme and passage for the week, so everything flows, yet the creative writing lesson can be skipped without harm.
I believe only one selection was changed.
