The Story of the World Vol. 1: Ancient Times, Revised Edition Audiobook
$23.76 – $35.96
The Audiobook brings history to life with this spirited and unabridged reading of The Story of the World Volume 1: Ancient Times by renowned narrator Jim Weiss. Save time by listening on the road or while preparing dinner, or let it lull the children to sleep at bedtime.
Product Overview
This spirited and unabridged reading of Susan Wise Bauer’s The Story of the World Volume 1: Ancient Times Revised Ed. brings to life the stories and records of the peoples of Ancient Times, covering the major historical events from the beginning of civilization to the fall of the Roman Empire. Read by Jim Weiss, it can be enjoyed independently, read along with the text, or used as a supplement to a traditional history curriculum.
Consider this: the baby is crying, raw chicken waits for you in the kitchen, and little Johnny wants you to read him the chapter about the Minoan Bull-Jumpers…again. Do you really want to hinder his thirst for history? Of course not! But dinner won’t prepare itself . . . No problem. Let Jim Weiss take it from here. He can read to your kids when you can’t!

Is there anyway to purchase this via an app like audible. MP3’s are so outdated. I would love to use your curriculum to homeschool my children on the sea. But I have spent over an hour trying to research the accessibility and unfortunately it is not going to work. I can’t find any other way to contact the company.

We’re sorry about the frustration! Yes, we are currently processing all our audiobooks to add them to services like Apple Music, Audible, etc. We hope to have them available through those companies by the end of this year.

Hi! I am wondering what the update is on getting these available via Audible. Thank you!

Answer Desk (verified owner) –
The short answer is that we are hoping all titles will be available by the end of the year, and really hoping that it will be much sooner.
The long answer is that the files have been sent to the distributor. They will do some final reviews and then send them to numerous platforms, including Audible, Apple, and Amazon.
Each platform then has their own approval process, which we’ve been told can take as little as ten business days or as many as sixty. We won’t get notified when the audiobooks go live, but we are pretty obsessive about checking.

Is the story of the world and the history of the ancient world the same book? I would like to listen on audible but want to be sure the books are the same before purchasing.

Answer Desk (verified owner) –
No, The Story of the World and History of the World are two different series. SOTW is for elementary and middle school students; HotW is for high school and adults.
We do not sell the History of the World audiobooks on the Well-Trained Mind site, but they are available on Audible and similar services.

It’s on streaming platforms now. It’s on Audible at https://www.audible.com/pd/Story-of-the-World-Vol-1-Audiobook/B0CTL2VJK1 or search for “Story of the World” + Bauer. And it’s on Apple Books as an audiobook as well. And at least some of the volumes, maybe all, are now on Spotify too.

Hi Katrina – they are standard CDs that should work in any functioning CD player, so I’m not sure. Have you tried a different CD to check the player?
