Product Overview
This Red Workbook, along with the corresponding Answer Key and the required Core Instructor Text, make up Grammar for the Well-Trained Mind: a complete course that takes students from basic definitions through advanced sentence structure and analysis – all the grammar skills needed to write and speak with eloquence and confidence, with the regular review needed for mastery.
There are three Workbooks (soon to be four); they are non-sequential and do not need to be done in a particular order. Each Workbook contains the same rules and examples – but each has completely different sets of exercises and assignments, allowing students to develop a wide-ranging knowledge of how the rules and examples are put to use in writing. This repetition solidifies the concepts, definitions, and examples in the student’s mind.

I wasn’t a great grammar student, and although I’ve learned much during my homeschool years, I still am not confident enough to grade without the key. Unfortunately the key has errors throughout, or simply doesn’t provide all of the answers. On an recent exercise (review 6A) my daughter did, the instructions told her to mark about 10 different types of words. The answer key only showed the adjectives and what they modified. Nothing else. My daughter is struggling and that exercise took her a long time, time that was wasted because I can’t grade it. I have the purple and the red workbooks with key, both of them have these problems. Overall, it is a good curriculum, and my daughter is learning more than she has with other curriculums. I personally do not trust that there aren’t errors in the keys that I’m missing.

Looking at the Red and Purple Keys, I’m not seeing that error. The instructions say to circle the pronouns and then label each of them with a letter according to type (eight letters total). The Keys show the pronouns circled and then the corresponding letter is written above the circle, as in the attached image. If we can answer any additional questions, please feel free to email us at [email protected] and we’ll be happy to help.
