What others are saying

  1. 5 out of 5 Perseverance in trials

It is almost hard to believe this story is true as Nat suffers trial after trial, but it is written beautifully and kept my 10 and 7 year old girls and myself enthralled as we cried, hoped, and cheered for him. It’s a story of true perseverance and trading beauty for ashes; of clinging to goodness and mercy; of working hard as unto God and not just for man; and of peering beyond the present to glimpse the hope and in the beauty in education. We always enjoy being read aloud to by the master readers and this reading by Jim Weiss is no exception. We appreciated and relished this experience. Some concepts or vocabulary will need to be further explained to youngsters to be able to better grasp the story of course, but it abounds with oppourtunity to spark beautiful conversations and hope for the reasons why we study, grow, and learn and lends vision for just where our hard work may lead us. His story is a lesson in the wonder of carrying on to life when the odds and heartbreak are real and stacked against us. It takes the reader out of self, especially self pity, and into the world of possibilities if healthy kindness and determination are chosen over detrimental fixations on what is not healthy like anger, resentment, complaining, bitterness etc. I found this to be Well worth listening to as a family and used it to relate his experience to our modern trials, no matter the size. With such sadness and exponential rises in suicide rates, this book could just help provide a preventative shift in mindset to a future or present
threat of vulnerability. How invaluable would that be?

  2. Question

Is this an audiobook (reading of the text) or a retelling of the story in Jim W’s own words?

    • This is an unabridged, word-for-word reading of the text.

  3. 3 out of 5 okay
