My 6th grade son is homeschooling for the first time this year. He has a good basic concept of grammar and can write pretty well. Should I start him at Writing with Ease 3 or Writing with Skill 1? We won’t have time to finish the whole book of either this year since it is already mid-november. Thank you for any guidance!

  5. Question

    Paola Thomas

At the end of last year, I discovered Writing with Ease, which led to my second grader completing only 12 weeks of level 2 without any difficulties, and he really enjoyed it! I am pondering whether to keep him at level 2 in third grade or start him at level 3.
    Your feedback is greatly appreciated!

If he’s doing Level 2 smoothly and with no difficulty, try a couple of weeks of Level 3 and see how it goes (maybe from the sample that’s available on the product page). The main difference is that the Level 3 readings get a little longer and more complex.

Easy to use by student and teacher

I was looking for a product that I could just open and go but yet teach my child the CM method with living books and narration. I used to just ask my child to read a portion of a book and ask her to narrate. But she found it very difficult. With this text, it helps to break down the steps a little, so that she is still narrating but with guidance. I also like how the lessons are short, so there’s less pressure even when the lesson might be a bit stretching.

Yes, the revised edition will come out around September 2025! Level 3 will be split into an instructor text and a student workbook, and a fifth day of optional creative writing lessons will be added.
