Product Description

The Story of the World series brings to life the people, discoveries, conflicts, and stories that shaped human history, from the ancient era to our own time. Told in Susan Wise Bauer’s exciting, clear style, this series has been read aloud by millions of parents to their elementary-school children, and has been read independently by a generation of middle-schoolers. The Story of the World series has over 800,000 copies in print.

Volume 2 covers the major historical events from the fall of the Rome through the rise of the Renaissance. Illustrated throughout with black-and-white drawings and maps, it also includes a pronunciation guide and chronology. (History doesn’t happen in a vacuum; it happens in real places, so we put lots and lots of maps in our history books.)

Use this Text along with The Story of the World Vol. 2: The Middle Ages, Activity Book for a full year of history, geography, and literature study along with fun and engaging hands-on activities.

Consider this: it’s almost time for lunch, your toddler is attempting to scale the mountain of laundry that hides the washing machine, and little Sally wants you to read her the chapter about the Viking Invasion again. Do you really want to hinder her thirst for history? Of course not! But what about lunch? And that laundry won’t wash, dry, and fold itself…No problem, there’s an Audiobook version of this Text read by Jim Weiss. He can read to your kids when you can’t!

  2. Question

Is there a less Euro centric history?

    • Hi! A couple of suggestions that might help:
–This curriculum does aim to cover as much of the world as possible, but yes, it’s somewhat western-centric. The “additional reading” lists in every chapter of the Activity Books do include LOTS more fiction and nonfiction from every region.
–In our resource-book “The Well-Trained Mind” (4th edition) we list TONS of history surveys, picture books, read-aloud books, atlases, etc, covering a wide variety of regions and periods. Elementary history is discussed in chapter 7; middle-grade history in chapter 17; and high-school in chapter 27.

  3. Question

I was gifted the 2003 copyright of Volume 2: The Middle Ages. I’d like to purchase the mp3 download for my son. What is the difference between this version and the revised edition?

    • The differences in the text are minor, and the vast majority of the text (98 percent?) is unchanged. Most of the changes were visual (new illustrations, maps, typesetting). It would be fine to use this MP3 with the older edition that you received.

  4. Question

I bought Volume Kindle format how do I get it on my Kindle account

We recommend that you download and save it to your PC or Mac and then transfer the file to your Kindle. Plug your Kindle into your USB drive. Do this using the Kindle’s standard USB cord…
Locate your Kindle folder on your computer. Once your Kindle is successfully connected to your computer, open your Kindle drive. You can find the Kindle drive in the same place your external USB drives appear.
On a Mac, this is typically right on the desktop. If not, open your Finder and locate the Kindle drive from the left panel.
On a PC, if you don’t find your Kindle drive on your desktop, you can find it in the Computer…My Computer folder.
Then move the file from your Downloads folder to your Kindle folder.
