Need Help?

If your child has unique needs or if you feel that the recommended grade level is not a good fit, you can look at the Writing with Ease, Diagnostic Evaluations. These are the Mastery Evaluations of the elementary level writing program used when the student has completed a Level’s Workbook and can help you identify if that program is a better fit for your student.

If you can’t decide between Writing with Ease Level 4 and starting this series: Writing with Skill, or if you are interested in an alternate progression for writing instruction, see Susan’s updated grade recommendations.

Not sure about the Hows or Whys of intermediate (middle grades) writing instruction? Be sure to listen to Susan’s Audio Lecture on the subject–one of our most popular downloads!

  1. 5 out of 5 Comprehensive Writing Program

We just finished Level 1 of Writing With Skill and I am most impressed with the fact that this curriculum takes the time to really teach all of the nuts and bolts that go into the writing process. One of my biggest concerns when my children were attending school was that they would receive writing assignments without ever having been instructed on how to write. When we started homeschooling my goal was to find a writing curriculum that would focus more on the process of writing rather than a large quantity of writing for the sake of output. The Writing With Ease followed by the Writing With Skill programs were just what I was looking for.

  2. Question

Does Writing With Skill introduce revision and rough vs final draft, or is the teacher expected to require that separately from the student lessons in the text?

  3. Question

Good day, I live in South Africa and would like to buy WWS 1 & 2, both Student and Teacher manuals. I would like to know if you will be able to ship the paperback books to SA, and how long will it take?

*PS. Due to the ZAR 15:1 USD Currency – Is there any discount that you can give me to make it more affordable in South Africa?
If there is any discount, i would like to support you further!!!
With discount price, I would like to buy Student and Teacher books, for Writing with Skill levels 1-4 and The Writing with Ease level 4.

Please add postage to South Africa with a formal quote attached with prices indicated with discount.

    It will be highly appreciated,

    Christa

  4. Question

We are new to this product, and I am wondering if it is sufficient for high school credit? Or do you recommend something else for high school? Thank you!

    • Yes, a year of WWS would count as a year of “English Composition” or a similar course.

  5. Question

With the Writing with Skill and Writing with Ease books – will the student need to have a separate reading comprehension workbook? Or is that covered in the writing books?

    • Reading comprehension is covered in the writing books. Learning how to understand what a student is reading is a big part of the curriculum.

  6. Question

This will be the first year that I am using this with my kids. How do I know which level they should start with? I have 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 8th graders. Thanks!

    • For the Writing With Skill program, we highly recommend that all students do the entire program in order without skipping (Level 1, Level 2, Level 3). This particular program builds on itself, and so it is most beneficial when done from start to finish. Students generally begin this program in grade 5, 6, or 7, but it is rigorous enough to be used with 9th or 10th graders as well.

  7. Question

I have systematically worked through Writing With Ease, Levels 1-4. Next year I’ll have a 5th grader. Is this Writing With Skill, Level 1 the next step? Are these meant for 5th-8th graders? Thanks!

    • Writing with Skill is for middle-grades students, but 5th grade may be a bit on the young side. Dr. Bauer has written a little article with recommendations about which books/lessons to do with each grade, giving various options. Download that article at http://downloads.peacehillpress.com/samples/pdf/WWEandWWSexplanation.pdf

  8. Question

If I buy the PDF, how many pages is it?
    Thanks
    Amy
