Product Overview

Author:

With this scripted, open-and-go program, parents have the tools they need to teach math with confidence. Carefully-sequenced, confidence-building lessons will help children develop a strong understanding of math, step by step. Daily review will ensure they fully master what they have learned. With this blend of conceptual understanding and traditional skill practice, your child will be well-prepared for first grade as they master all the concepts typically covered in kindergarten: counting to 100; writing numbers; beginning addition and subtraction; shapes and patterns; and coins, time, and measurement.

Includes weekly suggestions for delightful math picture books and ideas for integrating what the child is learning into her daily activities. No expensive manipulatives needed; you’ll need just basic household items (like coins, objects to count, and a clock) to make math come alive for your child. Student workbook required.

I’m just curious about the 10 frames. I have never seen/used 10 frames that were a single line of 10 blocks. My experience has always been two 5 frames stuck together. Maybe I live in a bubble? 😉
Curious what the pros and cons are of each style. THANKS!

Both types of ten-frames are very useful, and there is nothing wrong with the 5 on top, 5 on bottom version. The author thinks that the ten across is a better visual tool and makes it easier for students to “make ten” and such.

I was trained in another well-known conceptual math program that involved using manipulatives, but the cost of the other program was a deterrent for me. When I found this program, I was excited to discover that not only was it reasonably priced, but Ms. Snow uses mostly materials from around the house for the lessons, making it even more of an appealing choice. The lessons use (mostly) household manipulatives, games, and exploration to teach important mathematical concepts. The instructions for parents are clear and easy to follow. I have been amazed at watching my kindergartner grasp these math fundamentals, and he never complains that it’s math time!
