Product Overview

Author:

A complete grammar text for young students, Level 2 uses dictation, narration, picture study, and other classical techniques to develop language ability. From nouns and verbs to punctuation and capitalization, these easy-to-use, scripted lessons will give your child a solid foundation in grammar and clear communication. This teacher book is all you need for this level – no workbook! Students write the copywork and dictation on the lined paper they prefer.

Because Level 2 assumes knowledge of the concepts taught in Level 1, students in both first and second grade should start with Level 1. Students who complete Level 1 in 2nd grade may move directly to Level 3 in 3rd grade.

You don’t want to start with Level 2, because it assumes knowledge taught in Level 1.

We advise that first-graders and second-graders start with Level 1. Third-graders can start in Level 3, which reviews prior material at a typical third-grade pace.

This title does not have a scope & sequence yet. If you download the sample (underneath the illustration of the product), it includes the topics taught in the table of contents.

FLL Levels 1 & 2 are designed to be primarily oral, but the story narrations will build a foundation for reading comprehension: you read a short story to the child and then ask him to tell it back to you in his own words. This type of narration helps the child to listen with attention and grasp the main point of a work.

  6. Question

    Jennifer

If I start my child with Level 1 in second grade, which level should be used in third grade…level 2 or 3? I have heard recommendations for both and I’m a bit confused as to which one to follow up with. Thanks.

If you do Level 1 in second grade, you can skip directly to Level 3 in third grade IF they are ready for the writing. Levels 1 & 2 are both primarily oral, but Level 3 adds in a fair amount of writing. It’s fine to go to Level 2 for that reason, or just because you need to keep a subject on the relaxed side.
