Product Description

With The Story of the World audiobooks, you and your family will be caught up in a thrilling tale of heroes, villains, far-away lands, and new discoveries—a story that spans the globe. Each volume is read by voice actor Jim Weiss. 42 hours of narration!

Contents

The Story of the World Vol. 1: Ancient Times, Revised Edition Audiobook (Downloadable MP3s): the Pyramids, the Great Wall of China, the first Olympics (back before they added Ping-Pong), the rise and fall of the Roman Empire, and much more.

The Story of the World Vol. 2: The Middle Ages, Revised Edition Audiobook (Downloadable MP3s): you’ll meet Vikings, prophets, outlaws, Samurai, reformers, and explorers, in this thrilling story of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. (Note to parents of boys: Did we mention there are Vikings? And a poem version of Beowulf where a dude pops a monster’s arm off in rhyming couplets?)

The Story of the World Vol. 3: Early Modern Times, Revised Edition Audiobook (Downloadable MP3s): you might not think that the invention of interchangeable parts would be exciting, but somehow Susan Wise Bauer makes it so. Also the American Revolution, the Pilgrims, the settling of Australia, and why the emperor of China burned so many books.

The Story of the World Vol. 4: The Modern Age, Revised Edition Audiobook (Downloadable MP3s): it starts with a palace made out of glass and a revolution started by beef grease, and gets wilder from there. Thomas Edison, Martin Luther King, the suffragettes, Indira Gandhi, and Nelson Mandela are just a few of the characters you’ll meet as the story of the world is brought up to the dawn of the 21st century. .

  1. Question

Once I order, can I open the files straight from my iPhone and put in a Book app to listen to? Or do I have to go through iTunes on a computer first and then transfer to devices via USB?

    • You’ll need to put them on a computer first and then transfer them to your device via USB.

    Question

I love Story of the World history books and have recommend them countless times (and successfully convinced people to buy this curriculum) . I have all volumes on cd but they have gotten scratched over years of use ( aka mis-use by kids). In order to listen to them I ripped scratched discs and burned new ones. It was for personal use only and just so we could keep up with our school lessons. Its a huge pain and I would rather not have to do that. I wasn’t trying to violate any copyrights.

I would buy these in a heart beat on audible, even though I already own them on disk (and in print!). Because:
    1. The android app allows me to set a time limit or to only play one chapter at a time.
    2. It is easy to stop and start it from a bluetooth speaker.
    3. It remembers the last place we listened to it.
    4. There is no mix up with it trying to shuffle tracks.
    5. When I need to get a new device I don’t have I have to re-buy, or spend seeming hours re-setting up mp3s on my new device.
    6. No more scratched or lost discs!

    QUESTIONS:
    1. What is the procedure to get the down loaded mp3 books to play on a device?
    2. Is there a recommend app (android) to play them?
    3. Is there one MP3 per book? Or is it dived by chapter? Or is it divided by some other method?

    Thanks for wonderful curriculum,
    Julie Goggans

    • Thanks for your suggestions, Julie! The Audible process is complicated, and we are working on that option. To answer your questions:
      1. The procedure goes like this: you purchase the product; you receive an email with links to ZIP folders containing all the MP3s (each book is divided into 4 folders, each folder containing about ten chapters worth of material); you download those ZIP folders to a computer and un-zip them; you put the MP3s into your usual music player like iTunes or Windows Media Player, and then they are available to play. From there, if you wish, you can transfer them to a phone, iPad, iPod, or whatever.
      2. No particular app is recommended over another. People play them on all kinds of apps.
      3. The books are divided up into lots of MP3s. One MP3 per chapter (or half-chapter, since many of the SOTW chapters are two-parters).

  4. Question

We currently have the SOTW Vol 1 on audio CDs and it is on 7 discs. I am considering downloading this so that I can make an MP3 CD with the hope that all of vol 1 will fit on one CD if its in MP3 format. Can someone tell me if this MP3 version will fit all on 1 CD?

    • Volume 1 is about 460 MB. Most CDs can hold that much data.

  5. Question

If I choose the downloadable version can it be downloaded onto multiple devices? Thank you!

    • Yes, it can! If you have any trouble doing that, just email support AT welltrainedmind DOT com and we’ll help you.

  6. Question

Will these be available on Audible soon? I have credits to use, but I really want to purchase these books. MP3s are hard to use on my phone, so I’d rather them be all in the Audible app.

    • The Story of the World audiobooks are not moving to Audible at this time. If you aren’t using an audiobook app on your phone, I highly suggest getting one (they have some that are really cheap and even some free ones). Due to some changes Apple, Android, Microsoft, and so on made a couple of years ago, it is now much harder to just listen on your phone like you used to. Almost any app will make it easy, though!

  7. Question

I have all the SOTW CD’s. I no longer have a car with a CD player. What’s the best way to transfer this info into a digital resource I can play in my car without having to re purchase? Thanks!

    • Yes! First, turn the CD audio into MP3 files, following these steps (these are for a Windows/PC computer): https://www.dummies.com/computers/operating-systems/windows-10/how-to-rip-cds-in-windows-10/
Next, put those MP3s into something the car can play…for some people, this will mean putting the MP3s on your phone which can connect with the car’s audio. For others, it can mean putting the MP3s onto a thumb drive which can plug into the car’s USB port.

  8. Question

Do you offer the audio bundle with the revised version of volume 3? Thanks!

    • We don’t have that available yet. But the text in the 1st edition is 99% the same as the text in the revised edition. Most of the changes to the revised edition were visual (illustrations, page layout, etc).

  9. Question

It says at the top save when you buy the bundle of all 4 audio books, but isn’t it the same price if you bought all four separately?

    • Would you believe we were just testing your math skills? That sentence should only be on the CD bundle page, so I will ask them to correct it as soon as they can. Thank you for bringing it to our attention!

  10. Question

Are you any closer to putting these on audible yet?

  11. Question

Do you have an app to listen to the books or can we buy from I-Tunes?

    • Our audiobooks are in standard mp3 format, so you can use any non-proprietary audiobook app to listen! An app meant for audiobooks definitely works best, and there are usually several free or inexpensive ones for various devices. Click this link for more information.

    Question

are the MP3s single files or is each chapter its own file?

    • 2 out of 2 people found this helpful

Each chapter is its own file. When you purchase the set, each book is sent as four ZIP downloads. The ZIP downloads each contain several MP3s…each MP3 is a chapter or a half-chapter.
