    Too difficult for younger students

    Brittney

The volume 4 test booklet is probably better suited for a 7th or 8th grade student. It is too challenging for the 4th to 6th grade students. My 6th grade student had only taken a few tests and it has brought some tears . We will have to adapt all future tests moving forward which makes more work for the teacher especially when I have three other children to teach at different levels.

    Do not like the changes

    Amanda

With the revised edition, the test booklet no longer has multiple choice questions. This is a great test taking skill for students to learn, and I am greatly disappointed that this was not in the new test booklets. I do like the new addition of putting historical facts from the lesson in order, but there are far too many short answer questions, especially for my elementary students.

The test books were actually not changed with the 2021 revision; the test books remained the same because there were no content changes in the text that required revision. Only the cover changed, to match the books.

The Volume 4 book is a bit different than the three prior volumes on purpose: it is supposed to be a slight escalation in difficulty because students using Volume 4 are presumably a bit older. It’s recommended no earlier than fourth grade, due to content and complexity, so an age where students are preparing for logic stage work. The tests in general are not recommended before third grade (and it’s certainly fine to skip them even then!).

If you want to use the tests but have students that struggle with the number of short answer questions, you can always adapt to suit your particular situation. You might pick a certain number of those questions for them to answer, or you might let them answer orally, whatever works best for you.
