We’ve been helping Kate by testing her curriculum since she wrote the First Grade books and we are excited for the release of 2nd Grade in print. Although we did participate in the test pilot (for the cost of our own ink, paper and time giving our feedback on lessons), I’ve now ordered an official copy to use with other children in my home.
We greatly enjoy the Math With Confidence curriculum. The lessons are easy for me to teach, the curriculum is well organized, the games and activities are fun! If your child needs more time or practice with a concept there’s often a game you can go back to from that section to keep practicing with.
Kate will teach you how to teach math. I was not a good elementary math student myself and I was very apprehensive about teaching my child. No longer! Now we both have confidence.

Do you have a placement guide? Something that would help me decipher where my child should start your curriculum. He has gaps in his learning.

Most children are ready to start Second Grade Math with Confidence when they are 7 years old. Your child is ready if she can: count to 100 by 1s, 2s, 5s, and 10s; read, write, and compare 2-digit numbers, understand the meaning of the tens-place and ones-place in 2-digit numbers, write simple addition and subtraction equations, solve simple word problems with single-digit numbers, know most of the addition facts up to 9 + 9, know most of the subtraction facts that involve subtracting from numbers up to 10 (for example, 7 – 4 or 10 – 6), know the names and values of coins and identify combinations of a few coins.
All of these skills are reviewed in the first few units, so don’t worry if your child needs a refresher
on a few of them.
