Intermediate Grammar
Grammar for the Well-Trained Mind: A thorough, easy-to-use grammar program that gives students a soup-to-nuts grasp of the English language.
Grammar for the Well-Trained Mind, the sequel to First Language Lessons, takes students from basic definitions through advanced sentence structure and analysis—all the grammar skills needed to write and speak with eloquence and confidence. This innovative four-year program combines the three essential elements of language learning: understanding and memorizing rules (prescriptive teaching), repeated exposure to examples of how those rules are used (descriptive instruction), and practice using those rules in exercises and in writing (practical experience).
Grammar for the Well-Trained Mind focuses on mastery through repetition. Because of this, students can start with any of our four Workbook/Key combos. Each workbook combines with the Core Instructor Text for a full year (or more!) of instruction. Each year, students will review the same lessons, instructions, and examples. Within the context of extensive grammar reinforcement, students will engage with new exercises in each workbook to practice and apply the grammar principles under study.
Many middle school students will not complete an entire workbook their first time through the curriculum.
