Hi there - We're new to CC this year, and it looks like I've been included in the nursery rotation even though I don't have kids in the nursery. I'm not thrilled w/ this b/c I have four kids in four different Foundations classes that I need to rotate amongst.

Does this sound normal to you CCers out there? My thought is that the moms of the nursery kids should be paying for nursery workers just like I'm paying to have my kids in CC.

I'd love your thoughts on this. Thanks!

I am leaning towards doing SWR and Cursive First with my dd4 when she's old enough--maybe K or 1, not sure. She has some interest in writing when SHE wants to, and will draw quite detailed pictures, once in awhile, again when she wants to. So I don't push her about writing. My question is, if I'm going to do Cursive First, what do we do in the meantime when she wants to write? I try to show her the correct way to form the letters, which she tolerates for a little while and then says, "I'll do that when I'm 5." Any advice on this?

OK, so last year (4th grade) we started Write With the Best at the beginning of the year. After Christmas, I became ill and we went down to the 3r's (no "writing" projects) and History/Science were covered the Charlotte Mason way. Now, we're supposed to start school on Tuesday, and I'm finding I should have thought about writing again.

We are using MFW, and they recommend Writing Strands. When we tried WS in 3rd grade it was a bust. I think it was because DD wasn't ready for it, but I'm not totally sure. I'm willing to give it another go, but I REALLY like the look and feel of Writing Tales 2 for this year. However, I own WWTB, and I can see the similarities. I hate to buy another program if WWTB is basically the same.:tongue_smilie:

I liked WWTB, but I did feel it was a little over dd's head. I didn't use the passages in the guide, I used passages from whatever she was reading at the time. We did 2 units, but I think I would repeat those units if we decide to use them again.

Here are my questions:

1. I really think Writing Tales level 2 would be a good fit for my dd BEFORE using WWTB. I know HOD schedules WWTB in their CTC year (5th/6th grade), but I kind of think WWTB might be a better fit for Jr. High. Any thoughts on this? What was your experience with WT2?

2. We are using Rod and Staff for grammar so I'm not sure how that would fit with Writing Tales. Would the grammar be overkill, or just a good reinforcement. It seems to me that the grammar in WT would help her see it applied, but I don't want to burn her out. Rod and Staff works VERY well for her, but I don't particularly care for the writing assignments, which is why I purchased WWTB last year.

3. If you've used WWTB, do you spread it out over 4 years (Volumes 1 and 2), repeat it each year, or move on once you're done with Volume 2? What grades/ages did you use it with?

4. If you move on after Volume 2, what do you move on to?

I know this might be a little confusing, but I'm kind of in "stream of consciousness" mode right now. Doing a lot of thinking out loud.

Thanks for trying to decipher my questions and helping me!
Blessings!
Dorinda

I'm the one that posted earlier about needing to loose 6 lbs/week from now until October 24.

Here's the deal:
My hubby leaves to go to Indonesia for 4 months to fill in for a friend of ours who has to leave his post/job there. Our friend is a missionary there and he has to return to the States unexpectantly. He's asked my husband to come man the post (much needed) while he's away (my spouse is a surgeon and his partners have agreed with him serving in this role). We've prayed about it and feel God would have him fill in. He leaves October 29. I'm due to ovulate the October 25th ish. I want to conceive before he goes. (btw, thankfully, we've always conceived on the first try).

I weigh (GULP) 208 lbs!!!! at 5'7" height. (i know i know.....i've let myself go this year.....). But, I'm in OPERATION RECLAIM and I really want to get to the upper end of my normal weight range before conceiving. My husband told me that if I got to the upper range of normal (which is 164), then he'd agree to trying to conceive. Thus, my motivation is powerful. And, I generally can do something if I decide to do it.....(i can see myself as tenacious as The Biggest Loser ranchers).

I don't want to wait :glare: until he's back in March to start trying to conceive. We were planning to conceive in December, so now that 8 weeks has gotten chopped off I'm having to REALLY SPEED things up.

Even if I loose 3 lbs. a week for 7 weeks, I'll still be 187 lbs. Thus I need to loose the 6/week.

Any thoughts?
Anyone get pregnant while this overweight?

We're supposed to start on Tues. *snort*

The order I placed over 10 days ago is being shipped today. It was all in stock, they've just been really busy. Great. There goes Diva's language arts, history, geography. My RSD has been horrible this week. No sleep at all Monday (? I think it was Monday...might have been Tues?) stumbled through Tuesday like a Zombie, little sleep Tues night, Wolf stayed home Wed and I pretty much slept the clock 'round, until I woke up at 8pm, up til 3 am. Thurs was a blur, which brings me to today. Brain's working well enough to follow up on things I should have MUCH earlier in the week. The home school store I adore had open house two evenings this wk. Missed both of them. Since its a long wknd, I probably won't get there til the next one on Tues. Did I mention thats where I planned to get all our math, SOTW extras, Tazzie's science...basically anything that wasn't ordered over 10 days ago was to be bought at the store?

I have some MCT. We can get started on that, and Diva's science.

I'm soooooooo hooped. :crying::svengo:

I am not a parent but a private school teacher trying to help other small schools improve their curriculum. I am in search of recommendations for an elementary grammar textbook, in print or out of print, which would focus on analysis, a grammar progression teaching parsing, definitions, etc., but which could then be integrated with the poems, dictations and readings chosen by the school. I would like something drawing students slowly to penetrate the nature of words & the structure of sentences, every year going deeper, not just fill in blanks and jump through hoops of randomly organized grammar worksheets! Whole-sentence exercises are great! Does anyone have any suggestions?
